Buang Mokwena is a goal driven 24 year old woman who grew up in Ga-rankuwa and currently based in Kimberley,Northern Cape because of work.
I am a Bcom Financial Accountancy graduate from the North West University, Mafikeng Campus and now serving in the Army as a Firefighter.
I am a go getter, a woman of vision who does not sit and wait for opportunities to knock. I create my own doors. After completing my degree I never waited for an office job, I took advantage of what was available to me and said to myself that I will build in whatever sector or area I find myself in.
From a very young age, I have been very passionate about motivational speaking and leadership. I remember when I was doing grade 7 in Tsogo High school and I was asked to deliver a farewell speech for grade 6s who where paving their way to high school. During my high school days, you would never miss me in anything that had to do with leadership and public speaking. I also got the honour to be one of the few scholars selected to be part of a leadership program PFT.
Also when I was in university I served in ACTS (Association of Catholic Tertiary Students) and I was the first one to be a first year who was selected to be in the branch committee, the second year 2014 I moved to the provincial one and the third year 2015 I was in the national committee. That same year I was a Deputy Chairperson of the Student Religious Fraternity of NWU.
All this explains the type of woman I am and sums up to why I joined this type of a contest. Empress South Africa is the first and largest scale online national contest in the world history, it is all about beauty with brains and purpose, women empowerment and community development. I felt so much attached to it, it spoke personally to me looking at my history of fighting to make it no matter the circumstances. And I felt a need to be part of it, so that the world can realise my potential and that I can use it to empower other women especially those who are battling with low self esteem and confidence to push them to realize the power that lies deep within them without seeking any validation.
This is the first pageant I have ever entered and it is because it is not just a beauty pageant, but because it is a platform of growing women into eagles (winners) which develops powerful qualities and skills creating future leaders, embracing the youth and growing potential in them. I was also encouraged by the fact that theres no restrictions of height, weight etc. as compared to other contests.
Empress South Africa empowers women to grow and develop by making a positive impact in their communities. So I am making a difference both in kasi where I come from, Ga-rankuwa community and in Kimberley where I am situated and entered the competition under (Northern Cape). I am currently working with Charlene's place of safety in zone 7 and Noma place of the aged in zone 4, I am assisting them as per their needs. During April I did a Sunday Easter Big Lunch at Charlene with the help of my siblings. And currently started to give out soup in Pretoria North to the homeless during this winter season.
I am also inspired by Her Supreme Majesty Tshepo Makupu who was crowned last year, she manages her own company, a beauty spa business and is also an author. I look up to her as she has shown only dedication and power of a young woman.
I am now at the Semi-finals in the competition and I am awarded the title of Warrior Princess and also an ambassador of Motofind.co.za.
I would like to urge South Africa to offer me their support in pushing me to the finals. They do that by voting SMS Buang M to 35334 each SMS costs R3 and SMS are unlimited.
